Special Track on the Advanced Computing Systems and Solutions for Big Data and Big Computing

Description and Objectives

Over the last decades the researchers, developers, and practitioners from academia, industry, governmental, and scientific organizations have been continuously involved in formulating innovative research practices including development of high-end computing frameworks and scalable algorithmic solutions to reduce the time-to- results of compute-intensive (big compute) and data-intensive (big data) applications from multifarious domains (such as, astrophysics, archaeology, financial trading, and cyber security). The Web based scientific and big data applications provide an infrastructure that allows scientists and researchers to run scientific computations, data analysis and visualization through their web browsers. However, frequently occurring cyber-attacks and resource failures in highly distributed, dynamic, and open environments drastically affect the execution of applications running on high performance computing systems, facing researchers, and practitioners with substantial challenges. Thus, creating a Healthy Cyber Ecosystem has become a research topic of paramount importance, addressing social issues along with technical aspects of application development. It is expected then, that multi-faceted solutions must be integrated to address frequency, complexity, and rapidly-changing- nature of cyber-attacks: where Big data and deep analytics is performed on the data collected by Intrusion Detection (IDS) and monitors in HPC environments for achieving the scientific fidelity of data and compute intensive applications executing on such high unpredictable computing systems. The Special Track on Advanced Computing systems and solutions for Big data and Big Compute aims to enable synergy between key attributes such as, data, computation, analytics, machine learning, information discovery, authentication, and interoperability, and provides the premier venue for members from a range of international institutions including universities, research labs and industry to exchange ideas and experiences, analyze, present, and discuss latest research and development issues, and propose theoretical foundations related to research on combining solutions for enabling Healthy Cyber Ecosystems. This synergistic focus will enforce the engineering of intelligent and innovative systems and solutions to guide the performance optimization and to promote the development of new technologies (architectures, algorithms, and techniques) for High performance data and compute-intensive applications.

Paper Submission
The submitted paper should be at most 8 ACM single-space printed pages. Please use the following templates to generate your PDF: MS Word and Latex. Papers that fail to comply with length limit will be rejected. Submissions will be peer-reviewed by at least 3 peer reviewers. After the preliminary notification date, authors rebut by evidence and arguments all reviewer inquiries and their comments. Based on the rebuttal feedback, reviewers notify authors with the final decision. Selection criteria will include: relevance, significance, impact, originality, technical soundness, and quality of presentation. Preference will be given to submissions that take strong or challenging positions on important emergent topics related to Cyber Ecosystems. At least one author should attend the conference to present the paper. The special track papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings and indexed by the ACM Digital Library and DBLP.
Paper submission is available online via: EasyChair for MEDES 2018 website.
